WALK FIRST K9

Walk First K9 was created by Owner James MacDonald.

James is as loyal as your dog will be. He grew up in Halifax Nova Scotia with a mother who is a doctor and a father who is a physiotherapist. He has one sister who is also a doctor, but James decided to take a different path. After being in Africa for 3 months on his first trip he came home and went to Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) where he took the Advanced Diploma in International Business 3 year program in Kentville/Truro NS Graduating 2012. This lead him back to Ghana, West Africa. There he learned how to communicate with others in a different language. He was the business advisor to the organization called EQWIP Hubs which is an employability hub space helping youths get jobs or create businesses. All this helped him get to where he is today. Today he is working to build his dog training business so that all people across Nova Scotia Canada can have a happy, healthy family dog.

James believes in helping people understand dogs’ language. To get there you have to understand yourself first. He also wants people to know that it is not normal to walk behind your dog, but rather beside or in front. Thus one of the many reasons Walk First K9 was created.

WE CAN HELP YOUR DOG

Have you tried every trainer out there and still frustrated? Or just want a reliable trainer? Look no further!

I specialize in helping you with your dog’s behavioural needs. From the stubborn to the easy, happy-go-lucky dog, I can work with you to develop a personalized plan that meets your needs of having a happy family dog. I know what I am good at and I will not over sell you. I will be upfront and honest with all dog owners.

My journey started out as a boy who was open to learning about dogs. I was 9 years old when I got my first dog, a miniature Schnauzer. I have always been interested in dogs, even at the age of 7 years old when I had my first negative experience with a big dog. I was dragged head first into the pavement. This was because I was holding the leash wrong wrapped around my hand. From then on I have learned from my mistakes.

I have studied professionals, used some of their techniques and then adapted what worked for me with dogs. The biggest teacher has been all the dogs I’ve helped. Some taught me that they need to go to the park first and run while others can walk first then play. I listen to both human and dog. The human tells me the human story then the dog tells me their story.
